Everyone has their story of what got them into the beauty industry. The thing I love most about my industry is how crazy passionate stylist is about the art. It’s cool being around so many different people who genuinely love what they do.

Today I asked Ian to share a personal story of what brought him into hair.

My passion and love for hair take root from a hard time in my life.

Within a 2 year period I lost my father, my living situation took a turn for the worse, and my car was stolen within my first few weeks at a new salon, which had both my makeup kit and hair kit to actually work and earn an income. I was at my all-time low.

With plenty of time and no money to re-purchase all of my tools that I needed to service clients, I decided to apprentice the shop owner to make an hourly wage and find opportunities to get more education.

Eventually, things started to come together. I had a straight blade razor to start doing haircuts, became an educator for my salon through Bumble&Bumble as well as building up a clientele fairly quickly going from assistant to commission, and then to my running my own business as a renter.

I took many classes every year to sharpen my skill set, to elevate my art, and offer quality services to all of my guests.

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, hair saved me.

I’m huge on energy and creatively at my best when a client allows me to do what I know is best.

Trust the process.

Here are a few examples of recent transformations from my clients last week.

Tori came in and said she trusts me and after seeing a few of her hair goal photos, she gave me room to play and choose the best tones to suit her features.

Nicole came in curious about NBR for her wedding and decided to come in a little earlier than her big day to try them out and just in time for her photos.

I mentioned to her that highlights are only as good as the lowlights, and after showing her some examples I went straight to it and we couldn’t be happier with the final result.

The formulas used are as follows:

Money piece: Blonde me + 20v

Full head babylights: Blonde Me + 20v

Root smudge: 7n + Ps

Lowlights: 7n + 7gb + Ps

Toner: 9n + 9v + 9gb + Ps

Root: 7nb + 7gb + Ps

Lowlights 7.31 + 7.13 + 6vol

Each week I ask when my artists to share a story and formulas. Tune in every Monday for #manemonday post.
