Commitment Issues

So how tired are you guys hearing about everyone’s New Year’s Resolutions?

I don’t mind them actually. I personally don’t make them, because I tend to panic and feel backed into a corner when I make any sort of commitment.

If we’re friends in real life, you know I’m super flaky with plans, and the best way to hang out with me is spur of the moment.

Work seems to be in the only area of my life where I stick to my commitments, and never flake. In the two years at DKW Styling, I’ve never missed a day of work. I’ve never rescheduled a client due to sickness, babysitter issues, anything at all. And it got me thinking, why am I not ruthlessly committed in other aspects of my life?

One of my assignments while I was gone on vacation to Hawaii, was to take some time and plan out my first quarter in my Core Four (Body, Being, Balance, and Business).

You have to write out your facts and then your goals for the next 12 weeks, that can have tangible results. Something that you can check off at the end to say you were successful at them.

I’ll share a few of them with you since they’re the closest thing I have to a New Years resolution.

I had to type everything out and turn it in to my bosses, to extra hold me accountable. Then maybe sharing some of it here with you guys, you can call me out on my BS too, and I’ll be more inclined to stick with everything. Either way, the more I say them, and write them out, the more they are becoming me, right? I think so, at least.

BODY

Facts:
I currently don’t work out. I only chase the kids around and we do family activities (hiking, kayaking, etc, but no actual workouts)

Drink at least 4 cups of coffee a day, with add shots.
Drink 5 hour energy.
Drink Redbull.
Usually drink water as a last resort.

Goal:

Get down to 2 cups of coffee a day.
Only drink water, no other energy drinks.

Workout 5 days a week, 30-60 mins a day.
Types of workouts will include:
– Cycle classes/peleton bike
– Nordic trac elliptical
– Yoga
– Pilates
– Running

I’m gonna test them all and see what I like, then maybe from there I can figure out a workout regimen that suites my body and work schedule the best.

(Can you see how I couldn’t just commit to running and give it my 12 week “all”… too backed in a corner for my liking, so I’m committing to working out, but with options 😉 )

BEING

Facts:
I’m not religious and don’t attend a church

Goal:
Live a more intentional and spiritual life

I’ll leave the details on this one vague as to not offend anyone. I have my beliefs, you have yours. I respect whatever works for you. I want to dive deeper in this area of my life though, and I know what that looks like for me (at least for the next 12 weeks).

BALANCE

Facts:
I lack balance between work, the kids, and Big Ryno

Goal:
Daily quality time with kids. Games, outdoor play, crafts, reading, cooking together. No picking up my phone at all during those times. Truly connect with them.

Date nights with Big Ryno. He’s the best and most patient guy with me. I’m working like a madwoman these days, and I’m obsessed with our family, so it is truly hard for me to leave the kids behind. I gotta budge on this one though, so we can go out more often to have fun, without the little nuggets.

BUSINESS

The facts are, things have never been better in this part of my life, but the truth is, I’m JUST getting started.

I want to grow into a better stylist, trainer, and business woman this year.

I have HUGE things planned and I know the only way to get there is to dive in. I’ll be staying way outside my comfort zone, listening to my mentors, following my gut, reading, attending and teaching classes, taking a hard critical look at myself analyzing what I can improve on, and doing better the next day.

Today after our live training for our advanced students, we will be doing a podcast about Big Money Stylists. That’s right, guys. This little mouse voice is getting recorded. I know, I know, I never saw it coming either 😉

Well, there ya have it, a snippet of some of my quarterly goals. They might not seem like much, but I assure you, they’re all requiring major growth from me. And to be honest, for the first time I’m not freaking out about my commitments. I’m just flat out excited for everything.

Maybe that means little Val is growing up? Or maybe I’m still on my Hawaiian vacation high. Either way, I’m happy + grateful, and welcome the challenge to have balance and success in all areas of my life.

Did you guys make resolutions, or set specific goals and intentions going into the New Year?

If so, let me know! Also, let me know what you want to see and hear more of from me here. I know I’m a spaz and all over the place. Surprisingly, I’ve received the sweetest feedback from you guys, which kinda blows my mind. But let me know what you want to see more of!

And before I go, here’s some pics from our Hawaii trip.

Have a great week, guys!
