The gift that keeps on giving…

Have you heard of NBR Hair Extensions?

“What is this new technique?

What’s different about it?

It looks good in the before and afters, but I’m a little Skeptical.

I mean it claims to be less damaging right? But it’s a track… aren’t those super heavy? How do you hide them?”

I finally feel like things are picking up a little bit of momentum, and people are finally starting to ask “What is NBR?” And in December, we host one of our largest classes with over 170 stylists nation wide. This is not a A collaboration event with multiple brands and companies, this is an NBR exclusive event and certification class.

I have worn hair extensions for over 15 years, and I would say if you follow my blog you know I’m a little boo-shy when it comes to pretty much everything. Ha ha. I’m also a bit of a problem solver – When somebody tells me something is broken, I like to figure out how could we make it better.

Over the years I’ve tried literally dozens of different methods on my own hair, as well as on clients, and I decided I’m just going to focus on what I believe works the best.

I ended up creating a new method, the NBR Hair Extension Method – A solution for natural looking hair extensions, with very little damage.

Not only do they work on clients with fine hair, but multiple hair textures. Now when I look at the spaghetti noodle hair extensions (sorry to be a negative Nancy), but I just can’t handle how those feel or look in hair.

One thing you should understand about hair extensions is that if you have long skinny hair, meaning you can get a little bit a length but lack fullness, this is an easy home run with blending the hair extensions….

Now, if you have hair like me, where literally the top layer of my hair only gets about 6 inches, I get it. I have fine textured hair, and so it’s harder to get the perfect blend. So I was out on a search find to the most natural solution for my hair without completely destroying it.

I guess I could be frustrated about my hair, or grateful that it forced me to figure out something that would help many other women like myself, and also provide an income opportunity for many stylists.

Now quick client story from last week….

I love hair color, and would say I specialize in creating natural hair colors. I guess I like this because it makes extensions look more like “real hair”.

I get excited when I have an over-processed yellow blonde application come in to sit in my chair.

One particular client I had last week expressed that she hated her hair color. She had been going to the same stylist for the last 10 years, and just felt like there was a lack of communication.

She’s been following my work for a while now, and finally decided to take the leap. Because she’s had been following my work for a while she literally sat in my chair and said, “You can do whatever you want.”

I expressed what I thought would look best, and validated some of her concerns, and off we went.

I chose to tone down her blonde, and create a softer more natural blonde – thus making it look like a completely different tone that matched her eye and skin tone. The minute she sat down in my chair, I visualized the end result and knew this was going to be a good one.

When I finished the color, and the hair was still wet, you could tell she was trying not to look in the mirror too much…

I usually only partially dry the hair, quickly pin it up, and then start with the NBR Hair Extensions. As we started with the finishing touches of curling and styling her hair, I saw her eyes light up.

She looked at me and give me a hug as tears started welling up in her eyes, and said thank you.

It was in that moment that I thought “this is why I love what I do.”

It never gets old. For this reason I don’t know if I’ll ever completely step away from being behind the chair.

I know how it feels to be on the other side of the chair as the client, and the confidence it gives you. Confidence and feeling good about yourself, I believe effects every area of your life.

I titled this post “the gift that keeps on giving” because, if you have been following my work for a while, this may be be the perfect Christmas gift to yourself. And it’s the gift that keeps on giving 😉
