Many of you may know and follow Cara, creator of the blog MaskCARA. I had the chance to catch up with her in Laguna Beach and help assist her in getting closer to her goal hair color. Going from dark to light can be intimidating.

In my experience its best to do this in a gradual process. For her color we chose to do a heavy bleach weave. At the shampoo bowl I toned it with 8n 7nb Redken shades EQ. When I tone at the shampoo bowl I leave the toner of the ends of the bangs. This gives a sun kissed look. When you tone blondes it mutes the color, and most girls want to feel brighter around the face. We lifter her pretty light so when the toner fades out,(and they always do) it won’t fade as brassy.

After we toned I then took her back to my chair and reevaluated the color. Many times to soften the lines a bit more I will smudge the roots with a semi. I mixed 6n 7nb and painted on top to give it a softer melted look. She is wearing Laced clip in extensions here, which I also colored and cut to blend. To read more about this transformation visit her blog.

I was dying to have her use some of her new products on me so I had her do her magic on me. Here is a sneak peak of what she did…

LOVE and adore your blog! Love the hair, the clothes, the all of it. You have an incredible smoky eye going on in this post…would just love it if you did a tutorial on this eye, or perhaps just post the products used to get it…?

I am really interested in what you do with extensions and color. My hair is shoulder length would it need to grow out first?

Looking at all of your hair pics and would love to know if you have anyone you recommend for color in Vegas? I’m in need of some color and would like an expert referral:)
